Like most dads, Frank Morrison (John Tavolta) only wants what’s best for his son. Since he and his wife Susan (Teri Polo) divorced a few years ago, their son has been rebellious and troubled, with a history of lying. But Frank and Susan love Danny (Matt O’Leary) very much and know that he just needs love and understanding. Even though divorced, Frank and Susan have tried to be the best parents possible.
Susan has found someone new, Rick Barnes (Vince Vaughn) and is engaged. A newcomer in town, Barnes is wealthy and is able to give Danny things that Frank, a struggling boat builder, simply can’t. Before the wedding is over, Danny starts telling Frank troubling stories about Rick Barnes. Frank is torn. He wants to believe his son, but is Danny lying about Rick because he wants Frank and Susan to get back together?
But when Danny tells his dad he has seen Rick commit a murder, Frank knows he must find out the truth no matter the cost.
