UPDATE
28 January 2010
Our doctors and medical personnel are currently working in two locations: the University of Miami Hospital (a field hospital set up near the Port-au-Prince Airport) and the Port-au-Prince General Hospital.
At the University of Miami Hospital, the medical personnel have been assisting with wound care, administration of antibiotics, etc. The medical supplies were greatly needed here.
At the General Hospital, there was a lack of basic supplies for babies and children. The Volunteer Ministers brought diapers, baby formula, children’s vitamins, food, bandages and antibiotics, and these were distributed to the children and the people who are taking care of them.
Today, five doctors went to the FORAN Orphanage (Orphanage for the Future of the Haitian Nation). They examined the children and found them to be basically healthy – they administered basic care and antibiotics.
The doctors meet with Volunteer Ministers every night, to allocate supplies to specific locations as needed, and the Volunteer Ministers get the supplies delivered.
Some of the doctors are arranging to go out into the outer areas, away from the hospitals, to care for the injured. They, and the Volunteer Ministers, expect this to begin tomorrow.
