The Internet has been abuzz this week with reports that John Travolta “crashed” a wedding in Georgia two weeks ago. In an interview Wednesday, Travolta laughed and said he was more a last-minute guest.

Photos from the “crashed” wedding can be seen at imgur.com/a/qIzsQ.

“I didn’t purposely crash it. I was invited to crash it,” he told the Ocala Star-Banner.

Katelyn and Ben Elliott were getting married at the Brasstown Valley Resort in north Georgia in mid-May. Travolta said he was in the area doing some flight training for the Eclipse jet and was staying at the resort. He was eating dinner at the resort’s sports bar and grill the night before the wedding, when the wedding party spotted him and asked him to pose for photos with them.

He obliged.

“He was just so nice,” Katelyn told Atlanta’s WXIA, 11 Alive news. But when members of the wedding party invited him to come to the wedding for photos, Travolta said he would not be able to attend.

“They were really excited I was there,” Travolta said. “I had a schedule issue so I couldn’t take any pictures with them (at the wedding).”

He returned to his room and, he said, felt guilty. “I felt so bad,” he said. “They were crushed.”

The wedding was on the resort’s grounds, so Travolta re-evaluated his schedule, found the wedding and said, “OK, I’m here!”
“I just felt guilty,” he said, “so I went back and indulged them.”

In the photos, he is wearing his favorite casual attire — black ball cap, black T-shirt and jeans. The colors fit in well, actually, as the bride, groom and wedding party wore white, black and dark blue.

The photos went viral, and “Wedding crasher” headlines have appeared on Internet sites from the Los Angeles Times to TMZ to ABC News. Even Matt Lauer and Al Roker discussed how “Danny Zuko . . . photobombed” the wedding while discussing the story on NBC’s “Today” show.

“Every time we think it’s run its course, somehow it’s up there again,” Ben Elliott told 11 Alive news.

Travolta and his family — including wife and actress Kelly Preston – live in Jumbolair, a fly-in community just north of Ocala.
