A recently fired, slow-thinking museum guard (Travolta) is upset with his former boss and uses a shotgun to get her attention. He ends up holding hostage a group of school children. A down-on-his-luck reporter (Hoffman) sees this as the perfect opportunity for a has-been news anchor to revive his flagging career. The ratings soar as the reporter manipulates the situation and the people in it, but is it right and just?
