SYDNEY, 26 March 2012: Qantas, the national airline of Australia, touched down in Chile for the first time this morning-opening up new travel opportunities for the people of both countries.

The inaugural Qantas flight from Sydney to Santiago, QF27, arrived in Santiago at 10:30am this morning. It was greeted by Qantas Ambassador and international Superstar John Travolta.

From today Qantas will offer three return services a week on the Sydney-Santiago route, operated by a Boeing 747-400 that has been refurbished with award-winning A380-style seats, cabins and inflight entertainment. In total, Qantas will provide 1,100 seats on the route each week.

John Travolta said flights to Santiago marked the latest chapter of Qantas’ rich history as an international airline flying some of the world’s longest routes.

“Qantas represents over 90 years of commitment to the highest standards of safety, technology and service in aviation,” Mr Travolta said.

“I have no doubt that this new service will not only bring more visitors to Chile, but also introduce many Chileans to the wonderful country of Australia-a country I have come to know and love over the years.”
