The cast and crew of “The Forger” were shooting scenes at South Station last night — and leading man John Travolta has been getting rave reviews from fans and co-workers who say the longtime Hollywood heavy has bent over backwards to be accommodating and friendly during his stint in the Hub.

“He’s just a great guy,” said Sean Malone, who plays bad guy Finn in the flick. “He’s really friendly and nice to everyone. The other day I asked him to sign a stack of pictures for my family and he was like, ‘No problem, Sean!’ ”

In the drama, Travolta plays a former art prodigy turned thief who buys his way out of prison to spend time with his cancer-stricken son. But in order to pay off the mob, which facilitated his freedom, he has to complete one last heist.

Not to give away too much, but that heist happens at the Museum of Fine Arts, where shooting has yet to begin. However, the crew has done a nightclub scene in the old Aria in the basement of the Wilbur Theatre and another barroom shoot at Mr. Dooley’s Irish Pub on Broad Street. Malone said he and Travolta also have done a couple of fight scenes. “I come out better in some than others,” he joked.

The 52-year-old actor from West Roxbury has made a living in front of the camera since he was cast as Amy Ryan’s creepy BF Skinny Ray Likanski in Ben Affleck’s “Gone Baby Gone.” Malone followed that with a turn as Christian Bale’s crackhead pal Wolfie in “The Fighter.”

“I was the one who told him his mother was at the door right before he jumped out the window,” Malone laughed.
He’s also a recurring character on the Dish Network commercials for The Hopper. As for his current gig, Malone said director Philip Martin wanted some authentic local accents for his flick and so he had Boston Casting round up some supporting players.

“It’s a great job and I don’t even die,” said Malone. “I’ve gotten killed in a couple of movies, but not this one.”
