From Artists Direct.com – Who the hell needs karaoke when there are Grease sing-a-longs? Not me, that’s for sure.
There have been a smattering of Grease events, where both consummate and casual fans of the musical can get together at venues and theaters and sing their lily white asses off to the hits that make the musical a beloved treasure in our cinematic canon. On June 25, at the Hollywood Bowl, summer was officially kicked off with the Los Angeles Grease sing-a-long, where the film was played in full-screen Technicolor and crisp, crystal-clear six-track digital sound. Fans could sing along, and subtitles were even provided so that everyone could participate, no excuses. You can’t say you don’t know the lyrics to the songs since A) everyone knows Grease hits like “Hopelessly Devoted to You” and “You’re the One That’s I Want” and “Greases Lightning” and B) the words are provided in front of your face.
The very best thing about the Grease singalongs? No one is embarrassed. It’s a scenario where you can dance like no one is watching and sing your face off like no one else is listening and making fun of you for being out of key or being unable to carry a tune.
If you missed it, well then it sucks to be you. If you are proud of being a Grease nerd, then this was a nigh and an event designed expressly for you. Easily one of the coolest events of the summer—go Grease Lightning, Go! I’ll be at the next one too!
