From The Sydney Morning Herald–
November 8, 2010- Brisbane women could have blamed the Queensland sun for being hot under the collar but it was pretty obvious the sight of John Travolta in a pilot uniform had raised the temperature.
As he stepped off his plane at Brisbane Airport yesterday to help Qantas celebrate the company’s 90th birthday, the sound of women screaming “I love you!” drowned out the engines of his personal Boeing 707 aircraft.
“Oh he’s just lovely,” said Helen Oliver-Field, who was lucky enough to make it to the front row of hundreds of people clambering for a view of the real-life Danny Zuko.
“We ran to make it here up the front,” she said.
Even Premier Anna Bligh-at the Qantas hangar to help the airline celebrate its 90th birthday-wasn’t immune to his Grease lightning.
“John Travolta is still as hot as he’s ever been,” she gushed.
Travolta, a Qantas ambassador, told crowds he was pleased to be in Queensland, adding he was no stranger to the sunshine state.
“I’ve been here before. It’s lovely weather,” he said.
“But we did hit a rainstorm which came outta’ nowhere.”
After posing for photos with Ms Bligh and Qantas CEO Alan Joyce, the star was quickly whisked away from the tarmac to Qantas Hangar 3, where he took to the stage to sing the airline a happy birthday.
The Hollywood star took a few questions from the crowd, agreeing to a request from a Brisbane woman who asked if he could “adopt my husband and I.”
Travolta said he’d get the paperwork sorted and they would be coming home with him to the States.
One woman arrived on stage to say: “I don’t have a question, I just want a hug.”
Travolta delivered a big cuddle, posing for cameras with the lucky lady in his arms.
He then sparked a mad rush for cameras when he chose to sing a rendition of Summer Nights from Grease, saying “people are always asking for Danny Zuko.”
He also had some kind words for Qantas, saying that – from first experience – they had “the hardest training in the world.”
“I became a much better pilot afterwards, I can assure you,” he said.
“That’s why you guys are so safe.”
After being presented with cuddly koala and kangaroo toys, “for my son who is due to be born in 19 days, (his name is) Benjamin,” he joined Ms Bligh in cutting the airline’s birthday cake.
She said the state was proud to be the home of Qantas.
“It’s Queensland that puts the Q in Qantas,” Ms Bligh said.
“It’s terrific to have John Travolta here in town.”
